Wellness – now there’s a word – defined by Wikapedia as meaning a healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being. If you’re looking for help / guidance or a coach with an emphasis on wellness that’s where I come in.
So who am I, a good question? Firstly, my name is Robin Ellis.
I was brought up in what was then a semi rural township (now a major city), having farms front and back of our property. My extended family were either farmers (sheep and dairy) and or preachers, coupled with that I went to a church run farm school so if the farming didn’t kill be then the wrath of god probably would.
My formal education was in chemistry, and health coaching through the “Institute for Integrative Nutrition”.
Some chance events / encounters along the way led me to a complete change in my life. First was an unquenchable urge to travel leading me initially to move to New Zealand’s Western Island (Australia). In Australia I had no peers to hold me to old paradigms and so drinking quickly stopped followed by a sudden and unexpected interest in things such as Yoga and eastern mystical philosophy, and vegetarian / vegan cooking. It’s really interesting, people keep telling you to be yourself but when you really are you start hitting serious push back from family, friends, and society in general.
Today vegan foods are very common place but back then people didn’t really understand what a vegetarian was let alone vegan.
While my focus, or strength if you will, is in dietary change, but as a coach it is only one of many aspects that are looked at when guiding people (maybe you) to achieve balance or a lifestyle change.
Health Coach Training
I received my training as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s cutting-edge Health Coach Training Program. During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. My teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities. My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and my knowledge of different dietary theories, I work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.
